I Felt I Had to Be Here explores the aftermath of a young woman's suicide through the lives of those left behind. The film examines the different ways people cope with loss, the human impulse to protect their own stories about the deceased — and about themselves — and how this need may ultimately prevent them from finding what they might need most in such a moment: a shared narrative.
